This year’s Kalv festival begins with three days of three house concerts, a vesper and a vernissage.

The festival in 2023 will be (almost) a week long filled with parallel and interwoven tracks where the playful and exploratory take center stage.

Although snow once again is approaching the Swedish latitudes, spring is still approaching – and not least, summer! And with it the Kalv festival returns as usual!

This year a pre-festival 8–10 August: don’t miss to take part in mantra meditation (Tuesday at 20:00 in the School House), medieval circle dances (Wednesday at 14:00 in the Church) and experience an evening vespers (Wednesday at 18:00).

The Kalv Festival not only invites musicians and composers to do their own concerts, but we provide space for collaborations, and also impulsive events. This year, cellist Christina Meißner, accordionist Sergei Tchirkov, composer and organist Klaus Lang and musician and writer Magnus Haglund are invited.

One of the most important composers of the post-war period is the Italian Luigi Nono. One of his last works, La lontananza nostalgica utopica futura, is perhaps his most poetic and multi-faceted masterpiece.

This year, the Kalv Festival invites Soyuz21 from Zurich for several concerts during the festival. Soyuz21 spends a week in Kalv and performs in no less than three concerts.

This year, the festival ends with a large-scale concert in Kalv’s Kyrka: Varberg chamber choir, organist Johannes Landgren and Gageego! under the direction of conductor Gunno Palmquist!

This year we announce Utopica Futura! Utopica as its etymological, no-place, as an echo of the music we have given space to for so many years…
