Program Announcement 2023!

The Kalv Festival 2023 takes place 8-13 August!

This year we call the festival, the sounding houses in Kalv, and invite the audience to a diverse, multi-faceted and almost week-long musical feast!

The festival in 2023 will be (almost) a week long filled with parallel and interwoven tracks where the playful and exploratory take center stage.

We deconstruct and reinterpret baroque music with the help of ensemble Lipparella and Mark Tatlow, and we turn a whole collection of toy pianos into a concert with the help of Non-Piano Ensemble from Hamburg, and explore air, pressure and tone with the help of the flute quartet 40f. And Audiorama gives the festival an audiovisual extension with the help of its infamous sound rig.

In addition, we celebrate chamber music with the help of ensemble Gageego! and the German ensemble mosaik.

We also dedicate a day to the children together with audiorama’s fairy tale sound art and Maria Gull and Maria Odqvist’s rhythm and singing exercises.

As mentioned, the festival is being expanded in terms of time frame, but also its locations. The sounding houses in Kalv are not only explored in traditional Kalvfestival settings (the mechanical workshop, the village hall, the church, the forest) but move into the villagers’ homes in small “house concerts” and together with artist Peter Gustavsson’s musical painting, Kalv’s School house gets a sounding color tone.

Finally, the festival is framed by the organist and performance artist Liv Kristin Holmberg and her research project “Art liturgy”, where the church room is transformed into a suggestive and deeply artistic (and resonant) place.

A warm welcome!
