Kalv festival 2019 – Program announced!

The 16th edition of the Kalv festival will fill this rural jewel with exuberant activity. Last year’s new addition, the composition academy, is given new life while another new initiative is being presented: a workshop in music journalism. The length of the festival is extended from 3 to 4 days, and here a vast international outlook will stand side by side with local cultural activities.

We are welcomed by the Austrian quartet airborne extended, the violin virtuosos Marco Fusi and Winnie Huang, the west coast ensemble Mimitabu, the jubilee trio Elkjär/Stern/Christensson and a group of local poets. The Kalv festival also welcomes the teachers for the composition academy Malin Bång and Klaus Lang, the 8 selected student-composers, the teacher for the music journalism workshop Andreas Engström and the 7 workshop participants!

The activity in the village will be high over the course of a week’s time when the composition academy fills Kalv with composers, musicians and teachers from Sunday, August 4. Just like last year, the festival’s activities will revolve around the old school building and the church, where open seminars and rehearsals will take place. For those interested, there is thus an opportunity to gain insight into the composers’ compositional processes, while at the same time following the emergence of the works during the rehearsals!

This year’s festival starts Thursday, August 8, at 20:00 when airborne extended gives the first of their two concerts. The evening continues with an exclusive organ concert with the composer and organist Klaus Lang, where renaissance and baroque works are placed side by side with his own music. The festival runs until Sunday August 11 with a variety of concerts and seminars on the program.

You are all warmly invited!
